Microglide Ultimate Concentrate

Microglide Ultimate Concentrate is a highly advanced antiwear oil treatment. A special blend of surface modifying lubricants and anti-corrosion agents specifically designed to reduce metal to metal friction.

Microglide Ultimate Concentrate is suitable for all petrol, ethanol blends, diesel and LPG engines, transmissions, power steering, differentials (except limited slip), gearboxes and hydraulics.

Test Vehicle – SH001: T904 Kenworth Prime Mover with C15 Caterpillar™ Engine.
Trial conducted July to November 2018.

PREFACE:
The purpose of this trial was to determine if there were any improvements to performance and/or fuel economy under heavy duty application with the aforementioned prime mover SHOO1. These results have been acquired with as much accuracy as possible and reasonably practical and supported with verifiable facts rather than beliefs, opinions or hearsay.

It was the absolute intent of this trial to operate SHOO1 with consistency in all aspects and conditions so as to provide the most accurate and truthful data possible, free of distortion, exaggeration or misleading details.

At the time of this trial SHOO1 was running triple road trains of express freight five times per fortnight between Perth and Newman, Western Australia with each trip being approximately 2372 kilometres.

It is important to keep in mind that at the beginning of this trial, SH001 travelled mostly during the hours of darkness when the air was quite cold and the weather conditions were mild and mostly still. During the months of September and October the Pilbara and Gascoyne regions between Newman and Mt Magnet experienced an increase in temperatures and the usual winds of the region had picked up considerably.

On the return trip from Newman to Perth, SH001 was often subject to strong head or cross winds and while it is not possible to accurately measure the effect this condition alone may have had on fuel economy in this trial, the fuel figures presented in this report are conservative given this variable that was not present prior to the trial.

It is also important to note that all compartment oils, i.e Engine, Transmission, Front and Rear Differentials were sampled prior to any Microglide Ultimate treatment to determine compartment condition at the time and for the purpose of ongoing condition monitoring even though the engine oil was the only lubricant that was changed during this trial.

Technical Specifications

Whilst it cannot be accurately determined in this report if adding Microglide Ultimate to the transmission and differentials actually had any effect on fuel economy or performance, one noticeable difference was the operating temperature of the front differential had decreased immediately by 10ºC to 20ºC and the Horton fan at the radiator was able to be used on Auto cycle and intermittently rather than on an almost constant manual cycle as was the case prior to this trial.

Further to this, the engine did not require oil top-ups between oil changes once the Microglide Ultimate had been added, whereas prior to this trial the engine required a top-up of 3-5 litres of oil at least once between oil changes (approximately every 15,000kms).

Mileage, Fuel Usage and Fuel Economy Figures

To gain a starting position, the following first table details the mileage and fuel figures under normal conditions and prior to any Microglide Ultimate treatment.

You will also notice with the mileage figures that there have been certain trips/kilometre readings omitted from the tables below. These were deliberate omissions due to the fact that trips concerned were subject to unusual variables that would have given inaccurate and distored figures and would have dishonoured the intent and purpose of this trial. For example, some trips involved only a double road train on the return trip and the increased fuel economy figures would be deliberately misleading and tantamount to lying.

These variables were present during this 2nd Microglide Ultimate treatment and trial period:
11/09/18 – Backload – 3 heavy flat tops, wind-grabbing freight, strong headwinds.
18/09/18 – Heavy backload – soil/core samples and produce.
20/09/18 – Forward load – 3 heavy flat tops, wind-grabbing freight.
25/09/18 – Heavy backload, wind-grabbing freight, strong head winds.

The total kilometres tabled prior to the trial are 21103 with 18580 litres of fuel used.

For consistency with distance travelled, the kilometres travelled tabled after the 1st and 2nd Microglide Ultimate treatments are 21420 kms with 17370 litres of fuel used.
There is a saving of 1210 litres and at an average cost of $1.50 per litre, this equates to $1815 saved over approximately 21300 kms.

For consistency with distance travelled, the kilometres tabled after the 2nd and 3rd Microglide Ultimate treatments are 21454 with 17000 litres of fuel used. There is a savings of 1580 litres and at an average cost of $1.50 per litre this equates to $2370 saved over approximately 21300 kms in comparison to the figures prior to the trial.

The total outlay for the Microglide Ultimate added to the engine for this trial (without oil samples) is $266.
